How do you select a coach?

Some say it’s a matter of expertise. Some say it’s chemistry. Truth is – it’s both.

Selecting the right coach is not dissimilar from choosing other service professionals. Begin by interviewing the potential coach and assessing your level of comfort with their approach. Is it business focused or psychologically based? Do they have experience working with other executives at your level? Is there a basic understanding of your business model and competitive landscape? Do they listen well, curious about your thoughts and insights? Is their style one of collaborative partnership and joint problem-solving or is it one where they provide the expertise and explanations? Which do you prefer?

KNH believes that coaching needs to be client driven – it is the client’s success that matters, and all work should be built around meeting that need. We often recommend to interviewing different firms, and speaking with references so you can make an informed choice.
